Material Defect: Did an inert chip material cause widespread hard disk drive failures?

After about a million and a half hard disk drive motor units failed due to electrical short circuits, the plaintiff alleged a supposedly inert potting material in the driver chips was the culprit. An 8-minute animated tutorial helped convince the arbitrators to decide for the plaintiff hard drive manufacturer.
